Urgent Appointment

If you feel that your problem is urgent and cannot wait for the next routine appointment, please tell the receptionist so that you can be seen the same day.

Routine Appointment

In order to manage the demand as well as ensure the safety of our patients, we offer a mix or telephone & face-to-face, as well as routine and urgent appointments. Our reception team will request further information in order to direct you to the most appropriate clinician and appointment.

GP Appointments: Depending on your concern, we will offer either a telephone or face-to-face appointment with the GP. Routine appointments can be booked with a GP for both telephone, as well as face-to-face depending on the condition.

Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) Appointments: Most of these appointments are offered on the day however we also have some routine appointments that can be booked up to a week in advance. All ANP appointments are face-to-face.

Nurse and Healthcare Assistant Appointments: These appointments can be booked up to 4 weeks in advance, and we have specific clinics for certain conditions too. All appointments are face-to-face.

Physio Appointments: Appointments can be directly booked with our Physios and do not require a GP referral. We are fortunate to have a physio here on a weekly basis every Wednesday & Thursday. All appointments are face-to-face.

Consultation Length: Appointment slots are booked for 10 minutes to discuss your problems. Please be aware that the Clinician may ask you to make another appointments if you have multiple problems to discuss so that the Clinician avoids running late for other booked appointments.

Video Consultations (NHS Near Me)

The practice now offers NHS Near Me video appointments which allows patients to attend their appointment from the comfort of their own home or wherever is convenient, using their own computer, smartphone or tablet device. To use this service you must have a pre-agreed booked video appointment with the practice. Your clinician will be able to advise you whether a video appointment is suitable for you.

Home visits

If you are housebound and need an appointment, we will do a home visit. We will phone you first to understand what you need.

To request a home visit, it’s helpful if you phone the practice as soon after 8am as possible.

Extended Hours

These are pre-booked appointments for patients who find it difficult to arrange appointments during normal surgery hours. These surgeries operate on Wednesday & Thursday mornings between 7am to 8am.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

To cancel your appointment:

  • phone us on 0131 336 2291, Monday to Friday from 8am
  • reply CANCEL to your appointment reminder text message

If you need help when we are closed

The practice makes use of the NHS 24 hour service on telephone number 111. Please reserve this service for genuine emergencies.

On contacting NHS 24, you will speak to a receptionist in the emergency call centre who will assess your needs.  They will either;

  • Arrange for you to speak with a doctor or nurse
  • Invite you to attend LUCS (Lothian Unscheduled Care Service)
  • Arrange a home visit if you are too ill to visit the hospital
